A modern weighbridge system is a technological solution used to accurately measure the weight of vehicles. Vehicles will be driven onto the weighbridge and the electronic sensors will detect the weight of the vehicle and the loads it carried. Next, the data is transmitted from load cells to computer, where it can be analysed, stored, and used for various purposes such as invoicing, inventory management, or regulatory compliance.
A modern weighbridge system typically consists of several key components. Components of a modern weighbridge system include:
Weighbridge platform:
This is the large, flat platform on which vehicles are weighed. The weighbridge platform is typically made of steel and/or concrete. It is designed to withstand heavy loads and heavy usage.
Load Cells:
Load cells are electronic sensors that are placed beneath the weighbridge platform to measure the weight of the vehicle. Load cells convert the mechanical forces generated by the weight of the load into electrical signals, which are then used to calculate the weight. Load cells is the most important component of a modern weighbridge. Load cells accuracy ranging from C3, C4, C5 and C6 are available.
Junction Box:
The junction box is an electronic component that connects the load cells and the central computer. The junction box collects the electrical signals generated by the load cells and transmits them to the central computer to process or to display.
Computer or control unit:
The central computer or control unit receives the weight data from the junction box and processes it using software that is specifically designed for weighing applications. For most of the basic requirement, the data is being displayed on a monitor/LED display. The central computer can also store and analyse weight data over time. The data to be used for invoicing, inventory management, or regulatory compliance.
Software:
The software used in a modern weighbridge system is critical to its operation. The software processes the weight data generated by the load cells, provides real-time weight readings. Besides, the software can stores and analyses weight data over time. The software can also be customised to meet the specific needs of different industries or applications.
Display:
A display unit is used to provide weight readings to the operator or driver of the vehicle being weighed. The display unit can be located on the weighbridge or on a separate control unit.
Modern weighbridge system are often used in a variety of industries, especially agriculture, warehouses, construction, and oil & gases industry. Overall, a modern weighbridge system relies on high accuracy load cells, junction box, computer and software to accurately and efficiently measure and record weight data.
